Format Options

Main content

We offer multiple options for students to complete their MSW degree at Roberts.

These options depend on your:

  1. preferred delivery format (fully online vs. in-person with online components)
  2. preferred timeline (full-time vs. part-time)
  3. undergraduate degree (advanced standing option for students with a BSW and regular standing option for students with other degrees).

Combining these three areas, each student can select the most fitting and appropriate modality for completing their MSW degree at Roberts. In addition, students can select between the mental health and child and family services specializations.

Fully Online vs. In-Person with Online Components

Fully Online

In-Person with Online Components*

What does it look like?

  • All courses offered online with the exception of field placement/internship
  • All courses are synchronous (live virtual) mixed with some asynchronous (independent) work
  • We believe that live, virtual classes are essential to prepare students for advanced level social work practice
  • Small class sizes to nurture meaningful professional development

What does it look like?

  • Key practice courses and field seminars (a little over 50% of all courses) are offered in person on our beautiful main campus
  • In-person courses are offered on Saturdays (with the exception of concentration year field seminar on Thursday evenings)

This option works great for students who are:

  • interested in developing, practicing, and refining their skills in key social work practice courses in an in-person environment
  • available to attend in-person courses on Saturdays and the remaining live, virtual online courses in late afternoons and evenings (between 4 PM and 9 PM) – this format is more likely to accommodate working students
  • residing within the Greater Rochester region
